As a portrait photographer specializing in beach portraits, I want to make sure that your dressed appropriately for the occasion for the best possible outcomes. Here are some tips on what to wear for beach portraits:

  1. Stick to light, airy fabrics: When it comes to dressing for the beach, lightweight, breathable fabrics are your best friend. Cotton, linen, and other natural fibers are great choices, as they won't cling to the skin and will help keep your clients cool in the sun.

  2. Go for muted, beach-inspired colors: Soft pastels, muted blues and greens, and sandy beiges and tans all look great in beach portraits. Avoid bright, neon colors or anything too busy or patterned, as this can be distracting and take away from the natural beauty of the beach setting.

  3. Embrace the beach vibe: Dressing for the beach doesn't have to be overly formal or stuffy. Encourage your clients to embrace the laid-back, casual vibe of the beach by opting for comfortable, beach-appropriate attire like flowy maxi dresses, shorts and tanks, and sandals or bare feet.

  4. Dress for the weather: Depending on where you're shooting, the weather at the beach can be unpredictable. Make sure your clients are dressed appropriately for the temperature and conditions. If it's going to be hot and sunny, lightweight, breezy clothing is a must. If it's going to be cooler or windy, you might want to recommend layers or even cozy sweaters.

  5. Coordinate, but don't match: If you're shooting family portraits, you'll want to make sure everyone is coordinated in terms of color and style, but avoid having everyone wear the exact same thing. Instead, encourage your clients to choose complementary colors and styles that work well together without being too matchy-matchy.

  6. Pay attention to accessories: Accessories can add a lot of interest and personality to beach portraits, but keep in mind that less is often more. Encourage your clients to choose one or two key accessories, like a statement necklace or a fun hat, rather than going overboard with jewelry or other accessories.

Overall, when it comes to dressing for beach portraits, the key is to keep things simple, comfortable, and beach-appropriate. I encourage my clients to embrace the laid-back, casual vibe of the beach, and choose clothing and accessories that complement the natural beauty of the setting. With a little bit of guidance, you will look and feel your best in their beach portraits!
